All of our dissertations and thesis are bound by hand to exacting standards that are fully accepted by University and College review boards. We will hand stitch each section of six pages, then these sections will be stiched to book tape.
Then the dissertation will be rounded and backed and glued for a curved spine and shoulders for the cover boards to butt up against. We use only the the best acid free boards and papers for the covers and end papers for increased longevity.
The covers themselves will be from waterproof treated book cloth (or 'buckram') in a colour of your choice, though black or navy blue is the norm.
The lettering, both on the spine and front cover, will be done individually by hand in gold leaf. The spine will also have decorative headbands both head and tail to compliment the binding. This method is also used to bind company reports and magazine volumes.
These sturdy bindings will last you a lifetime, also, they will stand out as a quality binding when being examined by the examination board.

All of our restoration work is carrried out with the sympathy of the original leather binding always at the fore. We will retain as much of the original cover and spine as possible if required by the customer. We can also take a book apart, section by section and completely re-sew the entire book by hand before re-binding the book. You may feel that a new binding entirely is called for. This can be undertaken using traditional goat skin (a favourite for bible restoration and book conservation)in any colour required and all traditional tooling and methods. We can repair/re-bind in both leather and book cloth in a variety of styles. Full leather, half leather (spine and corners in leather with a marbled paper insert) or quarter leather (leather spine only).
